Parent Meetup: The Anxious Generation

« All Events

September 25 @ 6:30 pm 7:30 pm

Join us for a discussion inspired by Jonathan Haidt’s new book, The Anxious Generation. The book provides thorough, data-driven proof that children feel more isolated, anxious, and less independent than they did a decade or two ago, and it identifies smartphone use as one of the leading causes. We have several copies in the shop for purchase or you can listen to the audiobook while supporting Scholar & Scribe!

One of the book’s main recommendations is that kids delay getting smartphones (i.e., devices with the internet, social media, etc.) until at least high school (age 14-15). The book also outlines the benefits of children not having smartphones (social, mental health, academic, etc.) and how less phone time provides more opportunities for independence, free play, and responsibility in the real world.

All points of view are welcome (whether you’ve delayed/are delaying, wish you had, or have a totally different perspective altogether). Please RSVP so we know how many people plan to attend!
